Volunteerism

Las Madres is a 100% volunteer-run, non-profit organization. Without member volunteers, the whole of Las Madres would cease to exist. The Executive, Club, and Playgroup officers are all volunteers from members within the Las Madres organization and all members are encouraged to volunteer in some capacity on an annual basis.

Volunteerism is not mandatory, but is a necessity for the organization to continue servicing the needs of caregivers and to create a more robust meaningful experience in each playgroup for years to come.

People often ask how Las Madres works, so here is the breakdown of our structure and roles.

HOW IS LAS MADRES STRUCTURED?

The Las Madres organization is organized into three different levels: Executive, Clubs, and Playgroups.

The Playgroups level are the grassroots of Las Madres, they are organized by year of birth of the children, the roll up into the Club which is organized by Neighborhood. The Clubs then roll up into the Executive, who run the central functions of Las Madres.

WHAT VOLUNTEER ROLES ARE THERE AT THE DIFFERENT LEVELS?

Executive level - The Executive Board includes the Executive Officers and Directors at Large.

Club level - Each Club Board includes Club Officers (President, Treasurer, Secretary) that oversee the playgroups within their neighborhood area.

Playgroups level - Each Playgroup Board includes Playgroup Officers (Director, Treasurer, Secretary, New Member Contact) and playgroup members and their child(ren) based on neighborhood area and birth year.

WHAT ARE THE CLUB AND PLAYGROUP VOLUNTEERS ROLES AND WHAT DO THEY ENTAIL?

Each Club and Playgroup requires a Board, people from within the group who volunteer to drive their group and facilitate decision making on activities and how to spend their membership dues budgets. All fully paid up members of the group are entitled to vote on these decisions. These Boards are made up of the following Volunteer Officer Roles and without people stepping up Las Madres would cease to function.

PLAYGROUP DIRECTOR/CLUB PRESIDENT - This position requires teamwork and motivational spirit. The Playgroup Director/Club President is responsible for organizing and running the playgroup planning meetings, setting agendas, and serving as a sounding board for members.

PLAYGROUP/CLUB TREASURER - The Playgroup Treasurer is responsible for ensuring the proper management of playgroup funds. The Playgroup/Club Treasurer needs to be detailed-oriented and organized, maintaining accurate and up-to-date tracking of the playgroup’s budget.

PLAYGROUP/CLUB SECRETARY - The Playgroup/Club Secretary position requires attention to detail, organization, and writing skills.

PLAYGROUP NEW MEMBER CONTACT - The New Member Contact position requires friendliness and promptness. The New Member Contact position varies in intensity and slows down as the playgroup becomes older. This position is responsible for reaching out and connecting with all new members.

WHAT ARE THE EXECUTIVE OFFICERS AND COMMITTEE VOLUNTEER ROLES?

The Executive Board is made up of the Executive Officers; President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary. It is also has representation from the Club Presidents of each of the Neighborhood Areas and Directors at Large of the following committees;

- Marketing Committee
- Web Team Committee
- Parent Education Committee
- Community Service Committee
- Events Committee
- Membership Committee
- Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee
